Gradually he began to understand the tensions built in his mixed racial background. Finally, he graduated in 1983 with a degree in Political Science. In 1989, Obama met Michelle Robinson and got married on October 3, 1992. The couple was blessed with two beautiful daughters Sasha and Malia.
In 1996, Obama launched his own political career, as he was elected to the Illinois Senate, and he won as a Democrat from the Southside neighborhood of Hyde Park. Obama supported both Democrats & Republicans in drafting legislation on ethics & health care reform. He was a helping hand in creating a state earned income tax credit that benefited the working poor; he also promoted subsidies for early childhood education programs.
Obama’s charisma, stirring eloquence, and his campaign to bring change in the current political system vibrated with many Democrats, especially young & minority voters. On 3rd January 2008, Obama won a surprising victory against Hillary Clinton. After that nine months later, he was named the 2009 Nobel Peace Laureate.
