Battlefield 1 Review: Gaming on the OnePlus Nord N10

Gaming on the OnePlus Nord N10

OnePlus is a popular brand among the millions of Android owners who want a smartphone with flagship features but don’t want to pay the top-dollar price tag that’s usually attached to such devices.

The company made waves in 2014 when it released the feature-rich OnePlus One for just $299. In the years since, the company has continued to release handsets that are significantly cheaper than their rivals, without compromising on quality.

This hasn’t stopped the price of more recent OnePlus flagships from creeping up though. The OnePlus 8 T went on sale at the end of 2020 with an asking price of $649, more than twice as much as the original OnePlus phone from six years earlier.

To cater to smartphone users that don’t want to pay this price, the company has recently launched its Nord range of devices. These are significantly cheaper than its premium models, with each catering to different price points.

The OnePlus Nord is a mid-range phone. Although it has a cheaper processor, most of the other features still feel premium, including the high-quality cameras on the back.

At the other end of the spectrum, the OnePlus Nord N100 is the cheapest phone the company has ever made, catering to those that don’t want to spend much on a smartphone. But to make a phone that costs just $179, OnePlus have had to strip out many features, including 5G.

Sitting in between these two is the Nord N10. Costing $299, it offers a decent specification for a fraction of the price. It’ll take good photos, has 5G, and a 6.49-inch display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. And while it won’t be challenging the likes of the latest ASUS ROG, it’s a perfectly decent phone for playing games.

Casual Games

Casual games are the most popular genre among mobile players, and for good reason. They’re usually easy to learn, load almost instantly can be enjoyed for just a few minutes at a time, and can be played over and over again.

They’re the most popular genre for older gamers too, which works well for the Nord N10 since budget phones often appeal to the same demographics.

Many casual games can be played alone. Some of the most famous examples of these include Angry Birds, Candy Crush, and Temple Run, though there are hundreds of thousands of other options available in the Google Play Store.

However, many more casual games also have an online function that lets you play against friends or strangers. For example, Words With Friends and 8 Ball Pool both require an internet connection.

The OnePlus Nord N10 5G won’t have any trouble handling any of these titles. In fact, the phone’s 90 Hz refresh rate and HD display will likely make them look about as good as they ever will. You certainly won’t be pushing the CPU or graphics processor very hard while playing these types of games.

Live Games

Online enjoyed a boost in popularity thanks to the widespread adoption of smartphones. The convenience of being able to play from your sofa, the park, or the train made them much more appealing.

In recent years, have been adding live dealer games to their offering. They work by having a human dealer streamed to the player’s device, spinning real roulette wheels, and dealing real cards.

Games have grown rapidly in popularity in recent years thanks to their unique features and because they’re more interactive. This has made them the first choice for many online gamers, who prefer them over traditional online games.

The OnePlus Nord N10 does a great job of running live-streamed games and displaying them on its full HD display, meaning games like the Texas Holdem variant known as Live Ultimate Texas Hold ’em look stunning on the device.

The 5G connectivity also makes a big difference. Its higher speeds and low latency mean that you’re less likely to suffer from buffering or dropouts.

Live Multiplayer Games

Smartphone games have come a long way over the past five years or so, thanks mostly to the advancements in hardware. Today, it’s possible to play shrunk-down versions of AAA titles like Call of Duty and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

The PC versions of these games need pretty powerful hardware to run. For example, if you want to play Call of Duty: Warzone, you’ll need at least an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 or 1650, 8 GB of memory, and an Intel Core i3-4340 processor. While this isn’t cutting-edge hardware, it’s more than the average consumer computer will have.

However, even budget smartphones like the OnePlus Nord N10 5G can handle Call of Duty: Mobile. Not only will it run, but it also looks incredible. In a test conducted by, the game ran smoothly without any slowdowns or lag.

Similar performances were seen in a test of Fortnite carried out by Info full. In the demo they posted to YouTube, it took just over a minute for the game to load after tapping on the icon from the home screen, and there were no problems with lag or slowdown.

In both games, lighting effects (which typically place more strain on the graphics processor) looked great, showing some reflections and shadows. The Fortnite test also showed that the Nord N10 wasn’t working too hard and showed no signs of overheating after several minutes of gameplay.

Overall, the OnePlus Nord N10 is a great smartphone for those who want to play games on the go without splashing out a lot of cash. It’ll comfortably run just about any game you want, including casual games Battlefield 1 review, and more resource-intensive multiplayer titles.
