A South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, Nelson Mandela was born on 18th July 1918, in the village of Mvezo, in the Eastern Cape. His father Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela, was the principal councilor to the Acting King of the Thembu people, Jongintaba Dalindyebo. And his mother was Nonqaphi Nosekeni.
At a very young age, he uses to hear stories of the way his ancestors’ valor during the wars of resistance, and from that time itself, he decided to support the struggle movement for freedom of his people.
He got an LLB degree from the University of South Africa.
He joined politics in 1942 & in 1944 he formed ANC Youth League (ANCYL). And in the same year, he married Evelyn Mase and was blessed with two sons Madiba Thembekile “Thembi” and Makgatho, and two daughters both called Makaziwe.
On 10th May 1994, he was inaugurated as South Africa’s first democratically elected President. In 1995, he founded Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, and The Mandela Rhodes Foundation.
